Let’s Get Those DVDs!

Published at 7:27 am under Campaign, News

We know it’s been awhile since our last post. The Save Journeyman Campaign has since been figuring out the best way to go forward. We’ve decided to move the “mini-discussions” we’ve been having here in the comments on the blog to our forums. If there is news or something else you need to know about, we will post it here on the blog, but reactions to the post will be on the forums rather than in comments. We greatly appreciate the community that’s formed on this site and hope to see it continue on our forums.

The move to the forums doesn’t mean that fans should give up on getting a DVD set. Right now, DVDs appears to be a long shot, but if there’s anything we’ve learned during this campaign, it’s that networks need to hear from viewers more, not less. They need to hear there are some shows for which viewers are willing to make a stand. As viewers, we need to keep seeking out the most effective ways to get network attention. Right now, the most effective way to request DVDs is to let FOX know directly. Email them, write them, fax them. Contact info can be found here. That type of direct action is going to get the most attention. If you have examples of letters or emails you’ve written to FOX, share them with other Journeyman fans. Perhaps your letter will help someone who doesn’t quite know what to say. If you have other creative ideas on how to directly get FOX’s attention, let other fans know by posting.

Journeyman has meant different things to each of us. As we said in our last newsletter, Journeyman inspired us to expect more from television. Journeyman captured our imagination, stood out as a rare example of quality and showed us what television can be at its best. For whatever led you to the fight to save Journeyman, let FOX know that those are the reasons you want a DVD set.

To sound off on this post, please go to our forums. We’ve been told that Kevin Falls is lobbying for a DVD set of the series. Let’s join him in this effort, and get those DVDs we know Journeyman so richly deserves!

The news we have been dreading…

Published at 9:08 pm under Campaign, News

…is finally here. We have information from very trustworthy sources (no fooling this time) that Journeyman will not be returning to the air on any network. Kevin Falls has signed a development deal with another studio, and NBC and Fox are not interested in continuing the show. Their disinterest is moot without the availability of Falls, in any case. There is no word on a DVD release.

While this is extremely sad news, we should all be proud of the effort we put in to save the series and to stand up for quality television. Just a few days ago I received an e-mail from Brian Howe, who played Hugh Skillen, that expressed appreciation for our efforts. This is something we’ve heard before from others involved in the show. It is very nice to know that we were noticed and appreciated.

If you are interested in continuing to fight for quality television, the folks over at the Jericho Monster blog are helping to form Rock the Ratings: TheTelevision Viewers Union, with an eye to fortify campaigns like ours and get the networks and ratings people to recognize the new ways TV is being viewed.

Tying up some loose ends, we will be announcing the winner of our iTunes contest, and our poster contest will go forward if there is continuing interest. Drop by and post an entry.

Once again, we want to thank everyone for all of the wonderful work done on behalf the campaign, including posting, e-mailing, writing in, and, of course, sending in Rice-a-Roni. It has been great working with all of you, and we wish everyone all the best in the future.

News: March Madness and TV Guide Poll

Published at 3:12 pm under Campaign, News

Announcing March Madness: We need your help to turn up the “fan volume” in March! We are planning a concentrated, month-long campaign to raise awareness for the effort to save Journeyman. This week, we’re asking each fan to target the press by sending at least one e-mail about Journeyman and its campaign. Our goal here is to get a large number of fans contacting the press all at once. So send an e-mail even if you’ve done so before. This will keep Journeyman fresh in the minds of the press. For press contact info, see this thread in our forums. Check back each week for more Journeyman “March Madness” events.

Vote for Journeyman: Journeyman is featured in Ausiello’s TV Guide Poll about which “bubble show” most deserves another season. Journeyman needs all the votes it can get. Get other fans to vote too!
